Costume care: How to keep Halloween costume clean and fragrant

1. Machine wash:

Check your outfit's label for recommended washing instructions. If your outfit is made from cotton, polyester, acrylic or nylon and has no special decorations, it can be machine washed in cold water on a careful cycle.

2. Handwash:

Outfits made of tulle or spandex can be gently hand-washed at home, even if they have sequins or plastic trim. However, you must consider carefully when cleaning these clothes yourself.

Turn the garment inside out before placing it in cold water mixed with mild detergent.

Knead the material in water for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Gently wring the garment to remove excess water, but be careful over-wringing can damage the stitching.
